BLOCK THREE--Mix It Up Quilt Along

Block 3 Just a Slice

Welcome to Block Three of our Quilt Along. This week each of us will be featuring the first of several 12" square blocks that we used in our version of the Mix It Up Quilt. Feel free to mix it up yourself as you create your Mix It Up quilt.

My block this week is called "Just a Slice". Scroll down for some assembly diagrams and ideas.

All the cutting measurements and fabric requirements for my quilt can be found in the MIX IT UP Pattern Booklet, which you can purchase from Homestead Hearth, Fabric Essentials, Hancock's of Paducah, or from me. You can also purchase fabric kits from these folks too.

Happy sewing and PLEASE be sure to stop in and see everyone else's blocks. And share your progress on Instagram (#DesignerDuo2019) and on the Facebook Group.

Just a Slice is one of those fascinating blocks that create an optical illusion.  Construction is quite simple. First construct the center part.

Then rotate the block and add the four corner triangles. Block should measure 12 1/2" from raw edge to raw edge. Make three, all the same.

Idea #1: Repeating block all facing the same direction. Alternate fabric blocks, staying with the same color plan.

Idea #2: Rotate blocks so "long" black piece faces inward to create a big block. Swap out one corner triangle in order to pull together four blocks and introduce another color.

Idea #3: Start with Idea #2, then rotate the four center blocks to face inward. This creates an additonal layered illusion.  FUN!!

Keep sewing and sharing! See you next week!
